UFO Sunday 16.12.2012

Ganz ehrlich, am Anfang dachte ich nicht, dass mir der UFO Sonntag was bringt. Sonntags ist bei uns eher Familientag mit Spielen, Spaziergängen, Ausflügen, Besuchen, etc. Also dachte ich mir, dass er mir nicht sooo viel nützt. Aber jetzt in der Vorweihnachtszeit merke ich, dass es mir hilft, diesen Sonntag als Fixpunkt zu haben, an dem ich größere Sachen zur Hand nehme und weiter daran arbeite. Ja gut, und es hilft auch, dass ich den Druck habe, bis Weihnachten fertig zu sein, weil es ja alles Geschenke sind 😀

Honestly, at first I did not think the UFO Sunday works. Sunday is more family day with games, walks, trips, visits, etc. But now in the Christmas season, I realize that it helps me to have this Sunday as a fixed point on which I take bigger things and continue working on it. And yes, it also helps that I have the pressure to be ready until Christmas, because they’re all gifts 😀

Lange Vorrede, kurzer Sinn: Ich bin mit meinen beiden UFOs von letzter Woche fast durch! Zuerst der Kindergarten-Quilt. Dank Pat von Color Me Quilty und ihrem super Tutorial für Quilt-As-You-Go hatte ich keine Probleme mit der Technik. ABER leider mit der Durchführung. Der ganze Quilt besteht ja aus Reststoffen aus dem Kindergarten, der Hintergrundstoff zB aus einem alten Vorhang. Für die Verbindungsstücke auf der Vorderseite war nur ein größeres Stück Stoff da, das blöderweise auch recht dick war (ich tippe auch auf einen alten Vorhang o.ä.). Jedenfalls wurde bei zusammennähen alles recht dick und starr und meine Maschine und ich sind dem nicht immer Herr geworden. Sie hatte leider einige Aussetzer beim Zickzackstich und das Ergebnis ist nicht so sauber geworden, wie ich es mir erhofft hatte. Und ich war echt froh, als ich es endlich geschafft hatte! So schnell werde ich mir QAYG wohl nicht mehr antun!

I’m almost through my two UFOs from last week! First, the Kindergarten-Quilt. Thanks Pat from Color Me Quilty and her super tutorial for quilt-as-you-go, I had no problems with the technology. BUT unfortunately with the implementation. The whole quilt is from residues from the kindergarten, the background fabric for example from an old curtain. The fabric for the connectors on the front  was stupidly also quite thick (I think an old curtain, etc.). At sewing together, everything was very bulky and thick and my machine and I got problems. She had unfortunately some interruptions during zigzag stitch and the result has not become as clean as I had hoped for. And I was really glad when I finally made it! As fast as I would use no more QAYG!

Trotzdem gefällt mir das Ergebnis und ich bin froh, dass ich es mit den Kids gemacht habe.

Nevertheless, I like the result and I’m glad that I did it with the kids.

UFO damit abgeschlossen! UFO closed!

Nun zum nächsten UFO: Dirndl-Quilt. Ich war mir ja nicht ganz sicher, wie ich die Zwischenräume zwischen den Federn füllen soll. Also erstmal die Federn umrandet. Dann habe ich den Tipp bekommen, es mit einer Kreuzschraffur zu füllen. Fand ich eine total super Idee, bis ich die erste Lücke damit gefüllt hatte: Es ist ja sooooo langweilig! Es sieht total super aus, aber in Anbetracht der Zeit, die ich noch habe, um den Quilt fertig zu machen (Weihnachtsgeschenk!) und der inneren Unruhe dabei, bin ich darauf ausgewichen, ganz verschiedene Füller zu quilten.

Now for the next UFO: Dirndl-Quilt. I was not quite sure how to fill the gaps between the feathers. So first surrounded the feathers. Then I got the tip to fill it with cross-hatching. I found a totally great idea, until I had filled the first gap: It is sooooo boring! It looks totally awesome, but I still have to make the quilt finished (Christmas gift!), and so I have decided to quilt quite different filler.

Ich musste das Bild etwas aufhellen, damit man überhaupt ein Muster sieht.

Also jetzt noch Binding und Aufhänger machen, dann ist dieses Geschenk auch fertig! Jippie!
